Official Receptions/Public Ceremonies - During the year visitors and dignitaries from all over the world come to Hereford, many of whom are greeted personally by the Mayor. In addition receptions/hospitality is given by the City to visitors attending official functions such as Royal and Official visits, Swearing in of Judges, Civic Services, Remembrance Sunday event, Battle of Britain Sunday event, Opening of May Fair etc.,

Three Choirs Festival - Hereford City hosts this event at the end of August every three years, the intervening years are hosted by Worcester City and Gloucester City. This is an event receives visitors from all over the world who fill the hotels and guesthouses of the host city and surrounding area for the period around the week that it takes place.

The Mayor hosts a reception for the combined Chorus of the three Cathedral Cities at the end of the week. Dignitaries from the three Cities attend the opening service in full regalia in addition to attending many of the concerts during the week.

Three Counties Show – This famous agricultural and trade show originally started in Hereford but now has a permanent showground at Malvern. In June of each year one of the three counties – Herefordshire, Worcestershire and Gloucestershire – plays host to the others and all visitors. The Cities also had hospitality functions on the showground, giving the Councils a chance to promote their areas to the rest of the country; however the Foot & Mouth crisis has affected the running of the show – this seems to have given the organizers a chance to rearrange the format and no invitations have been received since Civic attendance in 1998 by the Mayor.

Twinning - Hereford is twinned with Vierzon, in France, and also with Dillenberg, in Germany; Each has its own twinning association and the Mayor becomes involved in hospitality and promoting the City at various events during the year.

Care and protection of the ancient Charters and artifacts of Hereford City - The earliest charter held in the vaults dates from 1189 and King Richard ll. Plate visits can be arranged during which the Mayor’s Officer gives the visitor an insight into the historic events which have shaped the development of this ancient City of Hereford.
